What is Vaping?:
How to Choose a Nicotine Level for Your Vape Pen

As you're getting started on your vape pen, one of the biggest concerns is usually what nicotine level will best suit you. Many things can factor into this decision but a couple of the main ones are going to be your determination to quit, how many cigarettes you are or were smoking a day before you started to quit and how powerful your electronic cigarette is. When you comparing vaping vs smoking, there is not a direct equation that a certain amount of nicotine in your e liquid equals a certain amount of cigarettes per day, it's too personal of an experience to lay it out like a grid. More than anything we encourage what's comfortable in the beginning of your transition, finding a nicotine level that best suits you can be a process, so be patient and open to try new things.

Testing the Waters

Depending on what your preferences are and how well you handle the transition, your nicotine level may vary from the norm. This is why we generally recommend people to try out a couple different e liquids in the nicotine level of 12mg so that you can have a gauge of whether you need more or less. The average nicotine levels that you'll see in stores is going to be 0mg (no nicotine), 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, 18mg, and 24mg, so you can tell a lot by trying out 12mg, which is right in the middle. Pay attention to how this feels on your throat and if you notice any effects of nicotine. If you can strongly notice the effects out of a 12mg, chances are you need a lower dose of nicotine. Vaping vs smoking can be quite the difference for some people, if you still need more of a throat hit and you need to feel more of the effects of nicotine than you got on the 12mg e liquid, maybe try out a higher dose. Be cautious on how much you are ingesting as you can overdose on nicotine.

Use Caution When it Comes to Nicotine

If you plan on gradually quitting cigarettes, meaning you're going to slowly cut back until only your vape pen will sustain you, keep in mind that you will then be getting nicotine from two different sources. Vaping vs smoking a cigarette is very different, when you smoke a cigarette, the effects of nicotine and other chemicals will hit your system immediately; where as when you vape, there is a slight delay in the nicotine hitting your system. This is why a lot of the time people don't think the vape pen is working for them so they light up a cigarette instead, this can be hazardous as you can overdose on nicotine. Common symptoms of nicotine overdose include restlessness, headache, nausea, rapid breathing and muscle twitches; if you start to notice these effects, don't vape, don't smoke and drink lots of water. A common way of preventing this is either to initially choose a lower nicotine level in the e liquid until you decide to indefinitely quit cigarettes or to break up the use of each throughout the day, for example using your vape pen at home and cigarettes at work or vise-versa. Just remember throughout the transition, vaping vs smoking makes you exponentially more dehydrated so drink up!

What is Nicotine

Nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants, predominately in tobacco but can also be found in smaller quantities in tomato, eggplant, potato and green pepper. Although classified as a mild stimulant drug, the effects of nicotine include increased alertness, aiding in concentration, elevates mood and in some circumstances can have relaxing effects. Among scientists there is a near universal agreement that nicotine is not a particularly harmful drug. With the fact that almost all electronic cigarette users are current smokers hoping to quit or ex-smokers who still enjoy their nicotine, you could say that nicotine is the most important ingredient for many of them.

Why Use Nicotine in Your Vape Pen

Many users of electronic cigarettes are very satisfied with the fact that you can control your nicotine levels. When you compare vaping vs smoking, you can actually pick and choose just how much nicotine you want in your e liquid and even further, you can choose which kind of device you want to use to vaporize the nicotine. Where as with cigarettes, there is no real way of knowing just how much nicotine you are ingesting. Whether you pick a low powered device with high nicotine concentrate or a higher powered device with a lower nicotine concentrate, you get to cater these options specifically to your needs. Not only is that beneficial immediately with being able to pick how much you start with, but later on down the line you can slowly start to drop your nicotine level to kind of ween yourself off of it and quit the addiction completely. Some times if you're going through a stressful time in life the effects of nicotine in the level you were on may not suit you anymore, just like with cigarettes how sometimes you just need to smoke another. Varying nicotine levels is also beneficial for this because instead of smoking more, you can just bump up your nicotine level and be satisfied with that.
